After taking Justice Ironbriar captive, I am able to use my mighty spellcasting powers to remove the enchantment controlling the lawman. We then sway him to our side with more of my magical awesomeness, and he answers our questions (mostly) willingly. He informs us that Xanesha is responsible for all of the murders, and is using the Brothers of the Seven as patsies. In exchange for his freedom, he gives us information on her forces and her hideout at the Shadow Clock. Time to go and stomp a few small-sized footprints in her face!
Now knowing that we may face a flesh golem, we head back to the shopping district for some supplies. Next comes beer, followed by a return to our borrowed residence for a good night’s sleep and a bit of magical crafting. Come the morning, we are off to see Xanesha and her minions.
We take a brief stop to talk to some folks about the Shadow Clock, as well as place a few bets on our success in reaching the top, as well as the direction the tower might fall if disturbed. We then head inside to face our first foe – Scarecrow the Flesh Golem. Of course, he hears us coming, and he delivers some massive blows to Orik and Beldar before he falls to their specially prepped blades.
After the battle, we head up towards the belfry. Parts of the staircase are missing at various points during the climb, and we are forced to ascend via Cian’s flight magic. Near the midpoint, someone from above attempts to crush us with a tower bell, but Cian is the only one who gets his bell wrung (ha ha). We find that said someones are faceless stalkers, and they again attempt to end our ascent in the belfry. Not much of a threat to a well-oiled combat machine like us, and we continue out of the tower and around to the rookery above.
The rookery is boarded up, and so we use flight to bypass this level of the tower and head up to the top. We reach the peak and beneath the statue of a crumbling angel we find a demon waiting. Of course, the demon turns out to be an illusion and the real Xanesha, a Lamia of some sort, struck from concealment of invisibility. Her tricks were not enough to confuse us for long, and once Beldar finally got his groove going, he was able to cut her down – fortunately before Orik, charmed by her magic, was able to turn us all into chop suey.
