After Xanesha received her comeuppance, and her treasure troves have been thoroughly looted, we find a note from her “brother” (or maybe sister?) suggesting that more dastardly deeds may be afoot in the area of Fort Rannick. We must proceed there at once! Well, once we stop by Sandpoint to inform Hemi of our progress, and to refill the pony keg. It could be a long trip, but fortunately I have an old friend in the area, so we should be able to stop for a refill along the way, and maybe even stay a few nights…
Of course, first we have to warn the Lord Mayor that his life may be in jeopardy. Patty Paper Pusher at the front desk is less than thrilled with our presence, but she is eventually charmed by my wit and allows us through. Coincidentally, Magnimar has lost contact with a small town on the outskirts of Hook Mountain, which is protected by Fort Rannick. It appears that whomever this Evil Sibling of Xanesha’s is, they have been up to no good. Off to the rescue we go!
We stop in briefly in Sandpoint to inform Hemi of our progress, and he is as surprised as ever in our competence. After checking on our bar’s progress and catching up with Ami, we gather our gear in preparation of departure. On our way out of town, we run into Shalelu, the tall, blonde, hot local elven ranger, who happens to be headed in the same direction that we are, and soon we have our own personal guide and tracker! Much better than our current guide, who tends to get inebriated and then lost.
Our path takes us east along the Yondabakari River towards the Sanos Forest. After about a week’s worth of travel, we come to the area where my friend Izzy lives, and decide to take a quick detour to catch up. It’s a good thing we did, too, because someone has unleashed an evil horde of undead forest creatures upon Izzy’s home, and she desperately needs my help! We charge into the fray, weapons drawn and battle cries piercing the afternoon air!
After the undead horde falls, Izzy emerges to organize the cleanup. It turns out that a group of Pathfinder trainees has been holed up with her in the cabin for a week while the undead ravaged the local area. They are very grateful for our assistance, and a feast is quickly organized while we discuss the local troubles. During dinner, we discover that one of the Pathfinder trainees, Dijjit, was drug off by undead during the attack. It is a strange thing for undead to be doing, and so with the possibility that she might still be alive, we decide to pursue the monsters and see about her fate.
Izzy lets us know that she has a friend whom may be able to assist us, and we find the little dragon man’s home at the end of the next day. After convincing him that we are indeed friendly (I mean, look at us – of course we’re friendly!), he agrees to assist us. He discusses the situation with some of his allies in the forest (more forest critters, I assume), and we proceed towards what we believe to be the source of this undead pestilence. Many of the forest’s creatures have fallen victim and become undead, including some pegasi, and we are forced to deal with them in a decisively violent manner (very sad).
Eventually, we are lead to a cave inhabited with skeletal Red Hats and a cackling creature of some sort. We handle the hatters easily, but the cackling creepy is all covered in spikes and coated with poison, and the stuff is quite nasty! Beldar gets a nastly dose and barely survives, but eventually we manage to put her in the dirt to rest with her undead minions. We also find that Dijjit is still barely alive, and some quick healing by yours truly saves the day again.
